29 Faces (Day 30) - BONUS Girl

YUP - 30 faces for me!!  WHOO HOO - I added a weird papercut headdress to this girl for my final face of the month.  I've had too much fun drawing/painting faces this month to stop anytime soon so be prepared for more.  Plus, my mom generously gifted me with the Jane Davenport - Supplies Me class so I'll be chock full of fresh inspiration soon.
A huge thanks to Ayala Art for sponsoring this super fun challenge this month - Word is that it will be repeated in February. . .  Fun!!

29 Faces (Day 29) - Embossed Girl

Today's face was inspired by the colors in the current Play Date Cafe Challenge of Wine, Pumpkin and Moss.  Fall colors for sure and ones that I love - can't wait to start eating pumpkin treats - I need to rustle up Pumpkin Bread soon!  She is also for the current 2nd Floor Challenge to use embossing on an art journal page.
I used one layer of UTEE (ultra thick embossing enamel) to get the textured look you see.  More layers would have smoothed out the enamel but I kinda liked it to have that leathery look to go with her sentiment,
"she never had any chance of education and she has always associated with rough people"

29 Faces (Day 28) - Graffiti Girl

This girl was inspired by all the fabulous graffiti looking girls that Dina Wakley has been doing lately.  While this is wild for me, Dina manages to be even more free - letting more of the under paint show through.  With time, and a bit more courage, I will be able to do that too!
Started out with random ink splats spread out by a straw (you can definitely get kinda dizzy doing this) and then I quickly sketched a face on top with markers and charcoal pencil (you may wish to add a setting spray at this point so you don't smear your charcoal from here to forever!)
Thin layers of paint, Copic Markers and a snazzy book quote finished her up.

29 Faces (Day 27) - Modigliani-ish

Used watercolors and colored pencils for a simple homage to Modigliani and his lovely long-necked ladies.  Back in May I painted "Mildred" in acrylic paints and decided it was time to revisit my inner Modigliani.  Do you like her quote?
"She would have loved to go around and slap every one of them in their silly, happy faces."
When I am bored and not feeling particularly creative then I go through some of my vintage books looking for quirky quotes to cut out.  I have a whole bag of them to go through when I want to embellish a picture.

29 Faces (Day 26) - Apprehensive Girl

She looks faintly nervous, huh?  She spends her time peeking around corners making sure the coast is clear -

29 Faces (Day 25) - Copic Girl

The month is almost over and I've managed to post a face every day!  I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed this challenge - I truly appreciate all the kind comments I've been getting as well!!  I decided to use my Copic markers - They used to get loads of attention and were used in the Copic classes I taught but lately other mediums have gotten more attention.  Time to remedy that situation.
LOVE her hair - it was inspired by Rosa Murillo's hair on her girls -

29 Faces (Day 24) - Advice Twins

Do you take advice from little cartoon people?  You might want to - they seem to be more insightful than you might think. . .
Corey says these kids look like they are up to no good - he swears that they each just stole at least two cookies from the cookie jar. . .
makes them sound like incorrigible characters.

29 Faces (Day 23) - Ink Blotter Face, Part Deux

I revisited the ink drop face - and drew a pencil face over the ink drips.  In theory she looked really cool - in reality she looks kinda weird.  Corey calls her "Jaundy" cause he says she looks like she has jaundice.

29 Faces (Day 22) - Trixy

This girl was so quick - I think I finished her in only about 5 minutes but she is one of my favorites of the month - Love her serious look plus the scribbly pen marks.
She is layered onto some homemade paper that my mom got for me - it is really delicate and lovely.

29 Faces (Day 21) - Bee Girl

Despite many reassurances from her friends, Beatrice was not sure that this should be her signature look!

Tam, Willowing, suggested we challenge ourselves to make a bee person this weekend - Fun!  However, mine looks kinda aggravated.

29 Faces (Day 20) - Blue/Red Girl

I'm not sure what to think about this one - Her features, esp. her nose, are wacky and crooked but she is the face that made Connor say, "Wow - that's cool!"  That's a big deal in my world - Connor isn't so much into the stuff I draw so when he liked it it made me like her more.

29 Faces (Day 19) - Emoticon Face

Emoticons - they are shorthand for today, right?  I am old enough to have taken shorthand in high school many years ago - so sad that I didn't keep up with it - it is such a useful talent to have but seems to be a dying skill - pretty similar to cursive writing.  Did you know that they don't teach cursive at school these days?  My boys had an introduction to cursive in school but since they don't use it in their everyday lives they are losing it quickly.   Seems a shame that with all the advances we enjoy today the basics seem to be disappearing quickly!  There is still a site devoted to shorthand - good stuff!

29 Faces (Day 18) - Eyelash Girl

Guess who has a prescription for Latisse?  Either that or she is wearing falsies (eyelashes - excuse me!).  I planned to paper piece her hair but then I decided I really liked her head and just left it as is for now.  Ever draw something and you need to step back cause you are afraid you will mess it up?  I'm kinda in that place with her right now.
She doesn't look so disturbingly unfinished cropped up close -  maybe she will show up with several different hairstyles/colors of hair soon.

29 Faces (Day 17) - Headache Girl

I get headaches - I hate getting headaches.  My mom gets headaches, my youngest brother gets headaches and our older son gets headaches.  Today was a headache day.  A headache day means many naps, lots of aspirin/tylenol/etc. and a bed that doesn't get made.  Our bed always gets made - - - unless it is a headache day.
I started feeling a little better early in the evening and this is the girl that came out - headache girl.  Works great with the Illustration Friday word of the week - BURST.

29 Faces (Day16) - Ink Blotter Face

I am super tired so this will be a super short post - This face was made with ink from an ink dropper.  Seems like a simple concept - draw face with dropper then blot.  VOILA - face then results.  Guess what?  It took at least 5 tries before I got one that I was happy with but this one is pretty cool.

29 Faces (Day 15) - One Line Girl

Miss Frances is a one line drawing - as in she was drawn from one continuous line of ballpoint ink without lifting the pen from the paper.   Denthe has been doing one line drawings all month and they are amazing and inspired me to try one.  I sketched on notebook paper since it seemed like the type of doodle a person would do at school.

29 Faces (Day 14) - Oversharing Girl

There is one of these in every family.  The one who blurts out stories that you'd rather were left unsaid.  At gatherings this is the relative that you want to keep a healthy distance from in case you inspire a tale but also the one you don't want to get too far from in case you need to respin a story!
