Bugs/beetles were getting drawn and painted around here pretty often until I started thinking about how mom wanted to hang them in the new office and then I kinda freaked out about how I wanted them to be really good and then froze up completely. . . Didn't draw a bug for over a month. . .
Hate when that happens!! Finally, tonight I just sat myself down, had a little pep-talk with myself and drew a new bug. This one is courtesy of Vintage Printable (lots of dowloadable vintage images - be sure and check this site out) and is labeled on the page "Orange Bugs with Spots" - obviously this one is sans spots but perhaps it is a female??
In a completely different direction, here is my first attempt at a 3/4 face. Needs work but is a step toward making more difficult faces.
Very cool bug!!
ReplyDeleteAnd great job on this face! Keep going! HPPF !
Love love that bug Michelle. Love that face, esp the lips. Makes me smile.
ReplyDeleteLovely bug! :) Lovely face , too, good job! Love the orange touches on both! HPPF!
ReplyDeleteCute buggy and that you're pushing yourself with the 3/4 face she's lovely happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteYour bug is such fun! Your 3/4 face is fabulous! Happy PPF!
ReplyDeleteGreat bug!! Love the colors! The speckles are great, and highlights too.
ReplyDeleteYour bug is gorgeous! I love the 3-D appearance. Sometimes it's not easy to get a bug to look rounded. As for the face, she's beautiful. I think I'll work more on faces this next year.
ReplyDeleteYour bug is very handsome and the lady is gorgeous too...they make me smile :) Have a splendid 2013 !!
ReplyDeleteThat orange/olive combination is fantastic, Michelle!! Love it!!

The bug is so cool - love the color combo. I think you have done well with the face. I have tried different facial angles and they are difficult. Don't you hate it when your left brain kicks in and starts criticizing? I think you kicked LB's butt with your sweet beetle. Happy PPF
ReplyDeleteLove the color combo of your beetles and your face sketch is wonderful. Happy PPF and Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteWow! Love the beetles and your portrait is excellent ~
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to You ~ A Creative Harbor aka ~ ArtMuseDog and Carol ^_^
The bug is perfection. I'm definitely not looking to meeting up with one like that. Love the sketch. Blessings, Janet PPF Happy New Year
ReplyDeleteA perfect bug and beautiful portrait sketch! Happy PPF
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteThe paper you are using for the bug does it have speckles in it? Can't wait to check out the site for vintage downloadables. I like the face, but why is it called 3/4?
ReplyDeleteWhat a great looking beetle! I love the colors!
ReplyDeleteBeetles always look so scary yo me. You've managed to make this one look kind of cute and friendly!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the portrait, too!
That beatle is exquisite.
ReplyDeleteADORABLE! Such great sketches and coloring!
ReplyDeleteHappy 2013!

That bug just jumps off the page. Love it!
ReplyDeleteHey Michelle - that bug is so freakin' cute I had to pop over and see what gives!!! Putting them on the wall - UGH! I can see//feel the freeze lol. But then I see the result of the thaw - it is amazing!!! You are SO God Blessed talented. I think your mom will be mighty proud to hang this creature of the "outside" on her (ew it is creeping me out) wall! lol lol It is a fantastic piece of art - maybe the "cabin?" haha (I know you get me!)
