Illustration Friday - UNIVERSE

"in control of her universe"
Yup - a weird alien girl - not sure where she came from but Caleb (aged 12) said, "She looks like the Queen of Space and Time."  Works for me.

"Look Ma, no pencil!"

When I draw I tend to lean heavily on my addiction to pencil/eraser.  However, I've recently read more and more blogs by artists I admire that never use pencil - they just wing it. So I got brave and tried it out myself and Look!!  She's cute - go figure!

Retro

This week's topic at Illustration Friday is RETRO so I took my gouache and started painting.
Took some motifs from the 50's and twisted them up with my own interpretation.  Love yellow ochre as the background - I would totally wear a skirt with this pattern.

Typewriter Series #61

"Promise me you will not spend
so much time treading water. . .
and trying to keep your head above the waves. . .
that you forget,
truly forget,
how much you have always loved to swim."

Leap at once. . .

"If we would only see that all limitations are self-imposed and chosen out of fear, we would leap at once."

A Contradictory Girl -

"It's quite hard for people to just accept that
they're very contradictory."

Doodling by the firepit. . .

This weekend's project was a DIY firepit.  Even though it is starting to get hot, Caleb couldn't resist a fire this afternoon and I sat outside finishing a doodle in a moleskine.
Love the look of all the swirly lines.

Is your glass half full or half empty?

Are you an optimist or a pessimist?
I tend to call myself a realist which, truth be told, means I am more than a little bit of a pessimist.  I prefer to be prepared for the worst and then be pleasantly surprised if things go well rather than expecting things to go great and then be disappointed.
So my glass of girl would tend to be more on the empty side.
Started with a doodle on an envelope. . .
colored her in. . .
then collaged her into a 1962 "Air Is All Around You" book.
Weird - but it is how I roll.
