Baby afghan?

We have a new baby nephew in Washington state!!  He is such a cutie - I wish we lived closer but for now we are having to make due with pictures through Facebook.  I've been working on this baby afghan for several weeks now based on the pattern found here.  I squealed the moment I saw it and would've loved something similar when my boys were little.
I don't crochet much (hardly ever) so I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.  Here is my question to you - Would you consider this to be a baby blanket?  The non-traditional colors have some people, particularly my mother(she loves it when I pick on her on my blog - doncha mom??) shaking their collective head.
On a completely different note here is a weird pod/plant sketch done in the car. . .

If you made it for baby, it's a baby blanket. It's a beautiful combination of colours! That kid will be stylin'! :)

The pod plant is very cool. I also love the blanket. I don't think many people focus on tradition colours and pattern now days. I think they'll be happy with how their basby has an original. Happy SS!

If someone had given me this blanket for either of my babies (who are girls), I would have been THRILLED! It's gorgeous! I love the colours. This blanket will grow with your nephew, and won't be put aside with the other "baby" stuff as he grows older. I do like your weird pod plant, too! :-)

Oh wow! Who cares whether it's traditional colours or not. I would squeal if someone gave this to me or to my baby. It's gorgeous and made with love, who wouldn't love it?

Oh my gosh, are you kidding me?! The colors in that blanket are DELICIOUS! I could eat them up! And for someone who (reportedly) doesn't crochet much, you've got skillz! It's just beautiful!

Yes, it's for a new baby, so it's a baby blanket. And a very beautiful one too, I might add! I LOVE it! I gasped when I saw it. Really, I did! I came over from Dawn's blog and saw your gorgeous creation. He will love it forever! :D
