Tried a new technique where you paint over a picture from a magazine. This lovely lady is an ad from Estee Lauder and is covered in clear gesso. Have you ever used clear gesso? That stuff is SUPER gritty - not sure if I like it or not.
Decided that the hands were unnecessary so I painted over them! In this pic I've also painted over her dress and lips.
Painting over her face erased the rest of the fingers. This technique is fun to try and would be especially great when you are starting with faces and are nervous about drawing them.
Kristin Dudish is starting Tutorial Try-outs on Tuesdays. Read this post to find out more - I cheated since I didn't do any collaging first but I don't think she'll send the paint police after me.

I love how it turned out - I'd have gotten rid of the hand too! I like clear gesso sometimes, but I always sand it down a little bit so it's not so gritty.
Wonderful technique, thanks for the link! I hated clear gesso when I first started using is, but then I experimented with sanding, and that makes a BIG difference.
I like it! I think I'll try it.
charming
Michelle, I love this technique! Really interesting, and great finished product! I will store this idea to play around with one day. :-)
I love your beauty and her colors. It is a perfect face.

Cool technique. Nice colors and strong lines :)
Cool technique! I love the quote, she looks like she means it!! I has this imploring look on her face.
Hooray Michelle!
I think it's fantastic that you did your own thing - that's what I think this is really all about... Finding inspiration and running with it (in any direction it takes you)!
I'm not a big fan of rules, especially when it comes to art, so you definitely don't need to worry about me sending the "paint police" after you! Ha!
I love your bold color choices and line work (and it's a great quote too)!
I'm SO glad you decided to play along! Wheee!!!

I loved your approach to this tutorial, and the elegant simplicity of the result. I was SO hamstrung by feeling that I had to stay close to the tutorial's structure, and I wish I had been as brave as you and gone for more simplicity.
So apart from being such a striking result that matches the quote so perfectly, you have done what these challenges are so good for - you have given me inspiration and guidance. Thank you.
most excellent!!
This is awesome Michelle. I saw this on Tam's site, but have not tried it yet...a must do!
I can't wait to try this...yours turned out so well!!
