Today I got the itch to paint a bug - not sure where that itch came from but I'm sure loving my beetle! (BTW - he is also known as a Flamboyant Flower Beetle - found in Africa)
He's a pretty big ol' bug - the paper he is drawn on is 6" x 9". Larger even than the bugs we used to encounter when we lived in Florida - the home of enormous bugs!!
Started with a pencil sketch then colored with Neocolor crayons and added details/splats with India Ink and a Sharpie White Paint Pen.
Public Service Announcement - India Ink may be removed from your butcher block kitchen table with Copic Colorless Blender Solution. If you don't have a bottle of it handy (which you might want to have if you are messy like me) I think just scribbling your blender pen onto the stained surface and then wiping would work too. sigh. . . I need to get a grip when I decide to splat ink around!

I'm not a huge lover of bugs but this one might just make me change my mind. It's beautiful!
Wow! I just love this bug!
Very impressed! This is the coolest bug!! I love the hightlight!
Michelle, it's wonderful to see your style developing lately!! The bug is great (even if i really don't like bugs) and your girls are fantastic! The blue girl, daydream girl, gold leaf girl... holy crap, they're gorgeous. Love the simplicity in your work and your colours are always perfect. xox
I've been trying to figure out exactly what it is that draws me to your work so much, and I think Pauline put her finger on it. There's a simplicity but it's definitely not simple. I think it's that uncluttered and deconstructed are the words I'd use. It's as if you've intuitively gotten rid of everything that's unnecessary so the beauty of your images just shine through. Your ladies, and your bug.
Your work is gorgeous Michelle! I even love the beetle!
This bug is just stunning!! Love the dimension you gave it with a simple shadow, he looks ready to crawl off the page :)
this is my favourite... huge beetles are part of christmas here and they look very shimmery and similar to this one... simply perfect... I love this...xx
